How to Resolve These Common Tenant Complaints

How to Resolve These Common Tenant Complaints

Customers are always right, remember? This adage has a deep meaning, as you should always make sure your customers are satisfied. As a landlord or property manager, you should always give a listening ear to your tenants and resolve their complaints. Living comfortably is what every tenant wants, therefore any issue that would make them feel uncomfortable is not welcomed, and they will always complain. There are many complaints you could get from tenants, but the ones listed below are the most common and luckily, tips are provided on how to manage them.

  • Noise

Except you are living alone in a secluded area, there is no way you won’t come across disturbances and noise. Noise could be from children, parties and also from the street. If the noise is coming from kids or other people, you can encourage your tenant to have a dialogue with the noisemakers and resolve it peacefully. Sometimes the cause of the noise can be beyond your control, therefore soundproofing measures like insulation, planting shrubs and others can help reduce the noise.

  • Parking space

The issue of parking space has always caused problem because some people park illegally. A tenant would be irked when another tenant or a visitor use their parking lot. In addition, tenants could be frustrated if they are not provided with enough parking space or if they don’t have at all. To solve this, ensure that tenants use their allocated parking lots, and inform prospective tenants of limited parking if only street parking is available.

  • Repairs

Whether it is a leaking pipe or clogged pipes, landlords should always carryout out inspection, maintain and repair any fault. Tenants should always let the property manager know of any maintenance or repair issue, and through a scheduled maintenance program, property managers should endeavor everything is working fine and also give room for repairs especially for emergencies. Some repairs can disrupt the activities of tenants, so communicate with them informing them on time.

  • Pests

Some tenants left their previous place because disturbance from pests became too much, and the last thing they would ever want is moving into another apartment that has the same issue they were running away from. This is why you should inspect the property properly and ensure that it is free from bugs before renting it out. Carryout preventive measure, and also fumigate the property annually. When you get a report about pest, act swiftly and call an exterminator. This is because pest infestation can quickly spread and become a major challenge.

Conclusion

It is your duty to provide a comfortable property for tenants, and whenever they complain, act swiftly and solve the problem. Tenant issues always occur, so make sure you know how to handle them as this will not just make them trust you, it will also boost the image of your property and your profession, giving you good reputation. The above tenant problems are very common, and while there may be other issues, knowing how to treat these problems is very vital to your success.
