Incorporating Art In Your LA Home Decor

Incorporating Art In Your LA Home Decor

Los Angeles is a haven to art enthusiasts as the city has 250 museums and some of the best contemporary art galleries in the world. Viewing art in these esteemed places can be a fun way to engage with people in the art community and develop an appreciation for visual art. But taking home some artwork can be even more rewarding as not only can it beautify your living space, but it may also inspire you and provide comfort on a bad day. To make the most of your art collection, you’ll need to know how to display them the right way to add some character to your home. Here’s a guide to incorporating art in your LA home decor.

Hang them at eye level

Place your favorite piece at the most prominent place in your home, such as the space above your living room fireplace, the wall behind your sofa, or in the bedroom. Make sure that it looks good from all angles, and never hang art too high. To know if you’re doing it correctly, position the frame in such a way so that the center of the artwork is at eye level. If you’re placing the painting in the living room, you can position it a bit lower as everyone tends to sit in this room. This way, everyone can appreciate your prized piece even while they’re relaxing on the sofa or sitting on floor cushions.

Don’t be afraid to display DIY art

DIY art can add a personal touch to your home, so don’t be afraid to display your own creations. To make it look more luxurious and professional, consider creating a series of paintings or drawings that have the same theme, then hang them up in one place to create a gallery wall. For instance, you can sketch key facial features such as a pair of eyes, then another piece can feature someone’s lips or side profile, while another can depict a person’s hands. Frame these pieces and hang them side by side in one area. Don’t forget to select frames made of the same material or finish to create a cohesive look for your DIY artwork, then make a gallery wall in the foyer or on a staircase wall.

Look beyond your walls

If you don’t want to drill holes in the walls of your LA property to hang up artwork, don’t fret. There are other ways to display art in your home. Small paintings or sketches can be placed on bookcases alongside a few accessories and mementos– just make sure to follow a certain theme or color scheme to make your art display look cohesive. Meanwhile, larger pieces can be leaned against the wall. Simply place them on the floor or a shallow shelf, but make sure that they’re away from foot traffic or busy areas, such as the kitchen. To give your home a gallery feel, you can have one or two easels in your living space and display your favorite art using these items. Make sure to get a display easel and not a painting easel, and note that the former is flimsier and more compactly built than the latter, which is often made of sturdy wood.

To protect your artworks and keep them looking great for many years, keep them away from moisture and humidity, and dust them lightly with a soft brush with natural-hair bristles. Follow these tips to incorporate art in your LA property and see what a difference it can make to add personal character to your abode.
